Overwatch League Adds New London and LA Teams

According to a report by SportsBusinessDaily, CEO Jack Etienne stated the team had always been interested in the location, and were able to secure the spot they wanted. Additionally, Josh Kroenke, president of the Denver Nuggets NBA team and heir to the Walmart family inheritance, and Stan Kroenke are bringing a team to Los Angeles - which makes two in the city for the League. Formation of the Overwatch video gaming league was announced a year ago.

Blizzard revealed two more teams participating in its upcoming Overwatch League: one team representing London and a second team representing Los Angeles.

Cloud9, meanwhile, already owns esports teams in nine other games. Founded in 2012, Cloud9 has been a consistent leader in esports across multiple titles. "We are thrilled that Cloud9's formidable fan base throughout Europe and the United Kingdom now has a local team to call their own, and can't wait to start representing London in the Overwatch League". Known as global leaders in the sports industry, Stan and Josh Kroenke own professional teams, stadiums, and media holdings around the world. Stan Kroenke met with Activision Blizzard CEO Bobby Kotick at last year's Blizzcon, fueling speculation that about a potential Overwatch League team purchase. Blizzard has announced several baselines for player pay and treatment, including housing, health insurance and a minimum $50,000 salary. Overwatch League teams will earn equal shares of league-wide net revenues, but will also keep the majority of local revenues earned through licensing, sponsorships, merchandising, and so forth. This brings the city its second team as well. Cloud9 is also joining NRG Esports, Misfits and Immortals as the only multi competition Esport's brands now in the Overwatch League.
