'The Dark Tower' Lands With A Thud

05 August 2017

There's a television series adaptation of Stephen King's beloved work on the way.

Projections are that The Dark Tower will debut with between $20 million and $25 million this weekend, and so far it's off to a good start.

THR reports that The Dark Tower director and co-writer Nikolaj Arcel will not be involved with this series at all, but that Mazarra will be leading the writing and acting as showrunner, managing the day-to-day activities on the show. Well, not quite. The Dark Tower is still getting a TV series, but as we heard a while back, it will be a prequel of sorts adapting the events detailed in the fourth novel, Wizard and Glass - essentially the origin story of our hero Roland Deschain. Luis Prieto directed the film. While that's not quite as dismal as the score recently received by the widely-panned The Emoji Movie, it's still hardly a number for The Dark Tower to be proud of.

His mother (Katheryn Winnick) assumes this is all a result of trauma related to the death of his firefighter father, while his stepfather (Nicholas Pauling) just hopes Jake is nuts enough to be sent to a loony bin so he can have his mom all to himself. It already had such a following with Stephen King followers so it was built in to have access", said McConaughey-who plays the "Man in Black"-in regards to why he chose to take part in the long-awaited film". Any fan of Elba knows he can pretty much do anything, and through the strength of sheer magnetism he is able to sell the character of the Gunslinger; a lesser talent having to deliver some of the Gunslinger's dialog would have the audience laughing instead of cheering. And that's something that hampers a lot of The Dark Tower. I think it's the right thing to do. I want as many people in the tent as possible, for all kinds of reasons.

The original plan had been to make this a series of movies, with a TV series set in between each of them, but then that got scrapped.
