Motorola just announced a 'special edition' Moto G5S and Moto G5S Plus

01 August 2017

Motorola has just announced the Moto G5S and Moto G5S Plus, despite only announcing the Moto G5 and G5 Plus earlier in 2017.

Speaking of the specifications, Moto G5S Plus will feature a 5.5-inch Full HD display (up from 5.2-inch on the Moto G5 Plus) and 2.5D curved glass. Simple. We first heard about the G5S Plus last month when specs of the device leaked, but now it's official. The smartphones run on the latest Android 7.1.1 Nougat out of the box with minor tweaks to the stock UI.

In terms of camera, it is expected to mount a dual 13MP main camera - one with a primary full-colour range and f/1.7 aperture, and the other with black-and-white range and f/2.0 aperture, and an 8MP front-snapper. Under the hood is the Qualcomm Snapdragon 430 octa-core processor coupled with Adreno 505 GPU. Oh, and the 5MP wide-angle front shooter is equipped with LED flash this time around. This fast-charging technology promises five hours of power in just 15 minutes on the Moto GS, and six hours in the same timeframe on the Moto GS Plus.

While the metal-and-plastic phone shares many characteristics of its $129.99 Moto E4 sibling, the biggest difference is in its size - both in sheer volume and weight, and in the corresponding expansion of the battery.

The 5.2-inch display on the Moto G5 Plus is bumped up to 5.5-inches on the Moto G5S Plus but still offers the same Full HD resolution. As for the new Moto G5S Plus, it has dual 13-megapixel rear cameras, combined with what Motorola described as "special photo enhancement software", such as selective focus. It is powered by Snapdragon 625 octa-core processor and will be available in 3GB RAM + 32GB storage and 4GB RAM + 64GB storage options. In Europe, Motorola says the G5S Plus will be available this month in various countries starting Euro 299.
