IIFA 2017: Alia and Shahid receive Best Actor Award for Udta Punjab

"As opposed to the speculation, not getting an award doesn't effect Sushant as he is very secure as an actor", the source was quoted.

It is an open secret now that the award of the Best Actor is grabbed by none other than Shahid Kapoor for "Udta Punjab" in which he portrayed the character of a drug abusing rock star.

Some of the other winners include Aniruddha Roy Chowdhury who was given the award for Best Director for his film "Pink". In the movie Shahid Kapoor was seen playing the role of a Punjabi Rockstar named Tommy Singh who was seen coping with a drug addiction.

The Best Picture honour went to "Neerja", based on the real life story of air hostess Neerja Bhanot, who lost her life while trying to save others on a hijacked flight at Karachi. Diljit Dosanjh also won the best debut actor male for the same film.

Rahman sang two lines from "Maa tujhe salaam" much to the delight of the audience on the final day of the 18th edition of International Indian Film Academy (IIFA) Weekend and Awards, an annual celebration of Hindi cinema at a foreign location.

Sushant Singh Rajput, who was hoping to bag the Best Actor award for MS Dhoni: The Untold Story was not particularly happy with Shahid's win.

Veterans Shabana Azmi and Anupam Kher won best supporting actors, for "Neerja" and the Dhoni biopic respectively. Actress Sonam Kapoor's Neerja bagged the Best Film Award.

Actress Katrina Kaif took the stage and grooved on songs like "Afghan jalebi", "Galti se mistake", "Dhoom machale" and "Kaala chashma".

The best playback singer female award was shared by Tulsi Kumar for "Soch na sake" (Airlift) and Kanika Kapoor for "Da da dasse" (Udta Punjab).

Unlike previous editions, no worldwide stars were part of the IIFA celebrations this year. The award ceremony itself was hosted by filmmaker Karan Johar and actor Saif Ali Khan.
