Barcelona star Messi excited by Valverde reviews

13 July 2017

Barcelona superstar Lionel Messi said Thursday he is pinning his hopes on a good start to the season under new manager Ernesto Valverde.

The Argentine says he has heard hugely positive reviews about the new Barcelona boss.

"We're all starting from zero again, with a new coach whose way of working we don't yet know, but we do know that he's a great manager because of what he's done with his other teams".

"He was with Valencia and Bilbao and we are hearing a lot about his reputation".

The Ernesto Valverde era starts on Wednesday as FC Barcelona return for pre-season training ahead of the 2017-18 campaign in which they will look to end the dominance Real Madrid enjoyed last season.

Messi, who is set to sign a new contract to keep him at the La Liga club until 2021, attended an event organised by Japan's ecommerce giant Rakuten Inc in Tokyo, Japan, to mark the beginning of their shirt sponsorship with the club.

"The only thing that will never change at a club like Barcelona is the demand to win every tournament we play in".

Mikitani said soccer is a passion of his and that he's excited to work with the team. A suggestion which has also been approved by Neymar - and fellow senior player Gerard Pique.

Indeed, Messi has been crowned the world's best player more times than anybody else.

Barcelona pair Lionel Messi and Neymar have reportedly informed the club that they want them to add Tottenham star Dele Alli as the next marquee signing.

The 21-year-old Alli has won the PFA Young Player Award for the past two seasons and has come to be regarded as one of the most promising young talents in Europe.
