Alleged Shooter Volunteered During Sen. Sanders Presidential Campaign, Vermont's Delegation Reacts

23 June 2017

The firearms recovered after a gunman opened fire on a Republican congressional baseball practice and injured five people in Alexandria, Virginia, appear to have been purchased legally, the Federal Bureau of Investigation and other authorities said Thursday. During the brief interview with the press, the Virginia shooter's wife said James told her he was going to be working with "people" to change the tax bracket system. Hours later, Democratic Sen. He also had an active presence on social media, including posts that Reuters described as "raged against Republican U.S. President Donald Trump".

But in 2006, he was arrested on assault charges, and threatening someone with a shotgun, in an incident involving his daughter and her friends.

Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders said in a floor speech Wednesday afternoon that he learned that Hodgkinson had volunteered for his progressive campaign for president, which focused on economic equality and almost toppled Hillary Clinton's presidential aspirations and threatened to derail the Democratic Convention last summer.

WASHINGTON (AP) - The man who shot a congressman and four other people Wednesday had apparently volunteered for Bernie Sanders' 2016 presidential campaign, the Vermont senator said Wednesday before assailing violence as "unacceptable in our society".

"I don't want to answer these questions about his politics", she said.

Hodgkinson has been arrested several times for offenses ranging from DUI to battery.

A review by 25 Investigates found Hodgkinson's political frustration stretched back long before President Trump and some of the current Republican leaders came into power. "And I said 'There's houses over that way.' But I don't think I got though to him".

Law enforcement at the gunman's former home in Belleville, Illinois.

The FBI posted a notice asking for information about Hodgkinson, including these contact phone numbers: 202-278-2000 and 1-800-CALL-FBI (1-800-225-5324).

"I am sickened by this despicable act", he said.

Mrs Hodgkinson said the separation came after their foster daughter and her daughter moved into their two-story home which is surrounded by sprawling countryside. "I can't wrap my head around it", Hodgkinson said.

Bill Schaumleffel recalled that he heard loud shots being fired outside his house, which stands about 500 feet behind Hodgkinson's home.

Rep. Jeff Duncan said in a statement that he was at the practice and "saw the shooter".

The deputy cautioned Hodgkinson about doing such shooting around homes, given that the rounds can travel up to a mile.

While trying to drive away from that confrontation, the report said, Hodgkinson used a pocket knife to cut a seat belt.
