I'm "100 percent" willing to dispute Comey's testimony - under oath

13 June 2017

"In terms of the mood in the White House, I would say that it's a regular Thursday at the White House".

The most striking thing James Comey revealed in his testimony before the Senate Intelligence Committee on Thursday is that he spent months preparing for it. The paper reported Trump had asked Comey to drop the investigation into former national security adviser Michael Flynn.

'No collusion, no obstruction.

During his testimony, Comey largely depended on detailed memos that contained all the interactions between him and Trump in the past.

The president added that he would soon have an answer on whether or not those recordings existed.

Why does this matter?

"The president feels completely vindicated and is eager to continue moving forward with his agenda, with the business of this country, and with this public cloud removed", Kasowitz said.

After the hearings, Rubio again tried to downplay the severity of what Trump had done, insisting that his actions were "not criminal, but probably a bad idea".

Appearing Sunday on CBS's Face the Nation, Sen. Trump asked, though he went on to say such a request wouldn't have been inappropriate.

A talkative client runs the risk of intensifying prosecutorial scrutiny.

Comey said Thursday that he began documenting his conversations with the president because he had a "gut feeling" Trump might lie about the nature of those meetings.

Mr Trump also took a shot at Comey for his admission that he (Comey) leaked a memo of a meeting with Trump to the New York Times, via a friend.

First, he'll hold a news conference at the White House with the visiting president of Romania Klaus Iohannis, where questions about Comey's testimony are sure to come up.

Comey has come under fire from the president and Republicans who say what he did was illegal and violated Trump's executive privilege, which prevents the judicial or legislative branches of government from demanding certain information from the executive.

A few days later, Trump Jr. linked to a news article posted on the conservative news site Breitbart that suggested Muslim men are a menace to Western women and posted a doctored image of himself, his father and several prominent Trump allies next to Pepe the Frog, a cartoon character whose image has been used by white supremacists. That day, after briefing then-President-elect Trump on the USA intelligence report about Russia's election interference, Comey immediately typed up notes about the meeting. Trump has been warned by lawyers to watch what he tweets because his comments could be used against him.

His hunch was correct, and the very next day former FBI director Bob Mueller was appointed to be a special counsel overseeing the investigation. Both have been top federal prosecutors.

According to Kasowitz, the memos Comey wrote and released expose the then-FBI director as a prejudiced conspirator. "I know I was sacked because of something about the way I was conducting the Russian Federation investigation was in some way putting pressure on him, in some way irritating him, and he made a decision to fire me because of that". There's simply no way that the president's attempted assassination of Comey's character can fail to colour Mueller's opinion of Trump's credibility and stature. Whether a sitting President can be prosecuted is an open legal question that has never been decided by the Supreme Court. Such an offence potentially could lead to Trump being impeached by Congress, although the Republicans who control the Senate and House of Representatives have shown little appetite for such a move. He said he documented the January 6 conversation based on a "gut feeling" about "the nature of the person" he had just met.
