Wisconsin Republicans gather for annual convention

Walker's campaign released highlights of the speech he plans to deliver at the state GOP convention this weekend in Wisconsin Dells.

Schimel cast his re-election against Democratic attorney Josh Kaul as the choice between a supporter of the state's voter identification law and an opponent of it. Kaul is lead attorney in a lawsuit fighting the law, which Schimel is defending. "But I need your help", Walker plans to tell Republicans, according to excerpts of his speech provided to the Wisconsin State Journal by his campaign. She says the Republican Party is "the party of the little guy".

Today, at the Republican Party of Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker announced he would be seeking a 3rd term of failure for Wisconsin Families.

While Democrats also on Friday criticized Walker for struggling job growth under his watch, Walker plans to emphasize on Saturday the state's unemployment rate, which has dropped below 4 percent.

His budget proposal included millions more in funding for K-12 schools across the state than even requested by state Superintendent Tony Evers, who is supported by Democrats, and a boost in state tax money for rural schools, municipal and county road fix funding and broadband infrastructure - all appealing to voters in northern, central and western parts of the state where his approval rating has sagged.

Gov. Scott Walker says he is "ready" for four more years as governor.

With Walker poised for another run, Democrats are still searching for a top-tier candidate to challenge him.

Many high profile Democrats have already opted out of a run for governor in 2018.

Walker spoke for just 12 minutes, about half as long as a year ago, and his slot was moved up so he could leave to attend the college graduation ceremony of his son, Alex Walker. "Well, with record levels of employment in the State of Wisconsin, the better question is, 'Why wouldn't I run for re-election?'"

Wisconsin Assembly Speaker Robin Vos is decrying what he calls a "plague of political correctness on our college campuses".

"He's giving us the keys to his campaign", Courtney said. "It's time we took a definitive stand against the suppression of ideas".

"Why wouldn't I run for re-election", Walker's planned remarks ask.

"The only people more surprised than Democrats that Trump won the Electoral College past year were Scott Walker's establishment Wisconsin Republicans", said Scot Ross, director of the liberal group One Wisconsin Now.

The president's victory has been the centerpiece of speeches at the convention on Saturday. We won with an even bigger force during the recall election in 2012. He also thanked Reince Priebus for helping Trump win.

The Wisconsin Republican Party convention is underway with U.S. Sen. Ron Johnson said Saturday it would be troubling if President Donald Trump recorded his conversations with fired Federal Bureau of Investigation director James Comey.
