Prince mourned one year after his death

22 April 2017

Ironically this song - which topped the United Kingdom charts in 1990 - reached number one on the US Billboard charts on April 21 1990, exactly 26 years to the day before Prince's untimely death.

Paisley Park, the suburban Minneapolis recording complex where Prince lived, will be the epicenter of events celebrating his life and music.

Prince's most famous band, the Revolution, used their performance Friday at the second day of Paisley Park's Celebration 2017 to kick off a North American tour that runs through July. The compound opened as a museum last October. A cool scene would be to see the 35W bridge across the Mississippi River in downtown Minneapolis lit in purple in honor of Prince.

Malinda Listenbee, 46, of Huntsville, Alabama, wore a Prince shirt as she and her husband Ulton waited to enter Paisley Park. He says Prince fans were somewhat complicit in his addiction, which was likely a result of the chronic pain he suffered after years of performing.

Mary Adams and her 10-year-old daughter, Rachel, visited First Avenue on Friday to pose for a picture in front of Prince's star, repainted from silver to gold soon after his death. Folks danced in the streets, repped their Prince attire and bonded over their deep admiration for a man who embodied every bit of what it means to be an artist.
