Samsung says Galaxy S8 pre-orders beat S7

21 April 2017

The S8 goes on sale on April 21 in Korea, the United States and the UK.

The pre-registration for both variants is opened already available online on Flipkart and other e-commerce websites.

Samsung has been trying hard to regain its reputation in China which was damaged even further following the mishap surrounding the Galaxy Note 7 devices and their recall.

Speaking about the specifications of the phones, the Galaxy S8 and S8+ are only differentiated in terms of display and battery capacity. The other variant of Galaxy S8+ sports a 6.2-inch QHD+ (1440×2960 pixels) Super AMOLED display.

Both Samsung and LG Display now lead the market in flexible screen displays, and LG recently began investing billions of dollars to expand its production capabilities for that technology. The major highlight of the phones is the "infinity display" feature. The addition of facial recognition in the Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus is an added layer of security.

After coming in behind Apple during the fourth quarter of previous year, Samsung grabbed the top spot in global smartphone market share in the first quarter of 2017, according to a report released today by the Taiwan-based market research firm TrendForce.

Samsung has in recent years offered up Active versions of its flagship handsets. The device packs 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage along with a microSD card slot.

The original report also reveals that the Galaxy S8 Active is codenamed "Cruiser", speculating how that name could imply it will carry a larger battery than the regular device as that ship classification denotes vessels designed for traversing distant waters. For the cameras, the back has a 12MP shooter while the front comes with an 8MP sensor. The duo run on Android Nougat based TouchWiz UI on top. Nevertheless, the tech company is assuring that the Bixby personal assistant will come in the USA later this year. So it's quite amusing that Bixby's most marketed feature won't be available by the time the new phones start shipping. Our speculations are the phones will be priced at Rs. 59,990 and Rs. 69,990 respectively, but these are just our thoughts. So as of now, we are taking April 19th as their launch date in India.

The company didn't disclose any exact figures but confirmed that the "preorders of the Galaxy S8 are higher than those of its predecessor Galaxy S7".
