JC Ramirez (2-2) allowed three runs on six hits with a career-high nine strikeouts in 5 1/3 innings.

Angels: RHP Ricky Nolasco (0-2) makes his fourth start of the season Tuesday in the second game of the four-game series.

Bregman, filling in for injured shortstop Carlos Correa, went 2-for-3 with an RBI single in the second inning that plated Evan Gattis and provided right-hander Charlie Morton (1-1) all the run support needed for his first win with the Astros. It was Beltran's first home run of the season and first in an Astros uniform since 2004.

"It's been a week where we're having trouble getting that that we need", Angels manager Mike Scioscia said.

Astros: RHP Joe Musgrove (1-0) takes the mound for his third start Tuesday.

Chris Devenski allowed home run to Mike Trout starting the ninth inning and back-to-back singles with one out before fanning Cameron Maybin and Danny Espinosa for his first save.

Houston Astros' Jose Altuve, right, hits a sacrifice fly to score George Springer. Making the roster and knowing that I'm one of the best five guys that they want to put out there every fifth day gives you a lot of confidence.

"I've just been feeling good and trying to ride the momentum and quality of pitches into the next start", Keuchel said. In four starts against the Astros previous year, Shoemaker had an ERA of only 2.22.

"Any time there's a close game, there's a little more pressure, but those are the types of games we like to play in", Bregman said.

Josh Reddick finished a single shy of the cycle and scored three runs, Dallas Keuchel allowed one run in seven strong innings and the Houston Astros defeated the Los Angeles Angels 5-1 on Wednesday at Minute Maid Park. "Juan is a really good fit up here".

The homer by Simmons gave Los Angeles a 1-0 lead in the second inning. He's also caught a lot of quality pitchers in his time. "Just a few mistakes and a couple balls they took advantage of. I thought we had a good approach against him".

NOTES: SS Carlos Correa remains day-to-day, according to Astros manager A.J. Hinch.

At 11-5 the Astros are off to their best start since 2006.

Angels: Alex Meyer will be recalled from Triple-A Salt Lake on Friday to make his first start of the season when the Angels open a four-game series against Toronto. Chavez struck out five and surrendered two walks in seven innings.
