9 months of sex scandals take down two Fox News icons

"Over the years, I have talked one or two times about Fox News host, and bold fresh piece of humanity, Bill O'Reilly", Colbert said.

Fox's A-1 newscaster and host of the long-running show "The O'Reilly Factor" was dropped by 21 Century Fox after accusations of sexual harassment have been thrown towards him.

Fox News has consistently been the most-watched network in all of cable television, not just news, over the past few months. Competing networks spent millions trying to compete with him and his gargantuan ratings and they never came close to beating his viewerships.

Hoover and Camerota also saluted Gretchen Carlson for getting the ball rolling when she first spoke out against sexual harassment at Fox. Bill O'Reilly has been the undisputed king of cable news... he is an incredibly talented broadcaster who raise the bar for interviewers everywhere.

Wendy Walsh, a former Fox commentator, says she lost a chance for a job at the Fox Network after she rejected O'Reilly's advances.

"Credit to James and Lachlan for doing the right thing here", said DiClemente, who noted that dealing with the O'Reilly controversy "in the right way" could be helpful for the Sky review.

O'Reilly - who is now on a long-planned vacation in Italy and was seen shaking hands with the Pope in Vatican City this week - was officially outed by 21st Century Fox on Wednesday. The firing followed weeks of controversy after the New York Times revealed O'Reilly and Fox News had paid almost $13 million to settle sexual harassment allegations with multiple women during his tenure at Fox. Tucker Carlson will take over his 8 p.m. ET time slot.

Fox had its largest audience on the renamed "The Factor" Wednesday night since O'Reilly left for what became a permanent vacation, with the Dana Perino-hosted show seen by 3.34 million people, the Nielsen company said Thursday.

The U.S. Attorney's office in NY is investigating how 21st Century Fox handled the Roger Ailes scandal.

Laurie Luhn, a former Fox News booker, tells investigators of the Fox internal probe that she had been harassed by Ailes for more than 20 years and that Fox News knew about it, according to New York Magazine.

When it announced Ailes' departure last summer, 21st Century Fox said that it would "continue our commitment to maintaining a work environment based on trust and respect".

"Thank god it's stopped now with Bill O'Reilly at Fox", she concluded.

She began the show by saying, "Before we get to the other big stories of the day, we want to address a situation many of you may already be aware of".

LATE SHOW host Stephen Colbert opened his show by explaining, "I owe a lot to Bill O'Reilly".
