Ivanka's brand prospers as politics mixes with business

20 April 2017

The Chinese government granted Ivanka Trump's company provisional approval for three new trademarks on April, according to a report by the Associated Press.

The AP found that three trademarks that confer monopoly rights to sell Ivanka brand jewelry, bags and spa services were approved in China on the same day as the dinner.

The overall brand itself says revenues rose 21 percent previous year, with early February seeing some of the "best performance ever", according to a statement by Klem.

The Associated Press reports Ivanka product imports surged an estimated 166 percent previous year, and nearly all of them were from China.

Which furthers the question of what the hell is Ivanka Trump doing in the White House?

"Then you get into the issue about improper influence", he said.

Ivanka Trump resigned from management at her clothing and accessories company to take a job in her father's administration.

December 27, 2016: Ivanka Trump Marks LLC applies for five new trademarks covering purses, wallets and other leather goods in Puerto Rico, and clothing, including swimsuits and lingerie in the US, public records show. Overall, Ivanka Trump Marks LLC, her trademarking business, has filed 173 foreign trademarks in 21 countries, as well as in Hong Kong and the European Union, in little more than a decade, according to the Times analysis.

"Put the business on hold and stop trying to get trademarks while you're in government", Richard Painter, who served as chief White House ethics lawyer under George W. Bush, told AP.

She said it was "all the more important that Scotland is protected from a Tory (Conservative) Party which now sees the chance of grabbing control of government for many years to come and moving the United Kingdom further to the right - forcing through a hard Brexit and imposing deeper cuts in the process".

A lawyer for Trump told AP that she was not legally obliged to step back from larger issues, such as trade with China: "The ethics rules restrict participation in "particular matters" that focus on the interests of a discrete and identifiable class".

Gorelick added that Ivanka would not participate in talks about tariffs on clothing imported from China, but could still be in on broad conversations about foreign policy. The Trumps aren't actually the business experts they play on TV, but it's clear they understand that, more often than not, there really is no such thing as bad press.

Ivanka products sales spiked 771 percent in February, compared with the same period a year before.

While that's not illegal, it shows how complicated it can be to separate the business from politics. "Her celebrity status is now not only being fueled by her wealth and her family connection, but by her huge role in the White House".

Adamson said that is a competitive advantage other brands just can't match.
