State Senator Daniel Biss Announces Candidacy For Governor

21 March 2017

Biss grew up in Bloomington, Indiana, and moved to Chicago after obtaining his bachelor's degree at Harvard University and a Ph.D.in mathematics at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, before joining the University of Chicago's mathematics faculty at 25. That timeline gives Biss roughly eight months to raise enough funding and support to prove he can pose a real challenge to more popular candidates like Chris Kennedy, more connected candidates like Chicago City Treasurer Kurt Summers, or wealthier potential candidates like billionaire J.B. Pritzker. He was among the harshest critics of Rauner and other Republicans during the 2016 campaign, creating a federal super PAC that spent millions on TV ads linking the governor to then-presidential candidate Donald Trump. "In Illinois billionaires and machine politicians have a monopoly on political power". Bruce Rauner became governor and IL has now gone through a budget stalemate like it has never before.

"This is an abomination, no state's been in this situation before", said Biss. "We need to put aside the finger pointing and behind the scenes bickering". "People across our state are hurting because of the nightmare of the last two years caused by Bruce Rauner", Biss said while seated in a Chicago office.

"Don't let his exterior fool you, Daniel Biss is the North Shore branch of the Madigan machine", read the statement. Answering a question posted on Facebook, Biss cited a recent conversation he'd had with concerned "DREAMers" at Evanston Township High School. Several other Democrats already are vying to take on Rauner.

"I'm not the millionaire or billionaire in this race but i think IL is facing a moment where what we need more than anything is a movement of people", Biss said.
